Week 5

     Hello everyone! This past week I was working on my abstract and also thinking of ways to go about making the poster to present at the ASU West conference. Josh showed me some of the posters of past students and they kind of made me nervous. I don't really know how I'm gonna pull that off, but hopefully I can manage and so can everyone else! 
     Apart from the ASU conference posters, I also looked back at my CO2 collections to see if there was any correlation between average CO2 and temperature. I graphed the data on Excel and there seems to be somewhat of a correlation, though I need more data to be sure. Keep posted to find out more!

Hello everyone!      This semester, as most of you know, we have been reading the book Daring Greatly by Brené Brown in class. So far, I really enjoy reading it. She covers interesting topics and the way she narrates the book is not boring or dry. One of the things that so far has stuck out to me is her discussion on vulnerability. She points out that while society mostly believes that being vulnerable is a sign of weakness, not being vulnerable is actually what makes one weak. Because someone is scared of being vulnerable or of embarrassing themselves, they don't take risks or look for opportunities that put them out of their comfort zone, and could actually miss out on a lot of things that they would otherwise have if they didn't view vulnerability as a weakness.      I have noticed that I, like most people, tend to limit myself because of fear of not being good enough for something or fear of making myself vulnerable. Week 9

This week I have been switched back to focusing on gram staining. Josh said that it would be better if I just gram stained all of the colonies instead of just the ones I have been sampling. So now I am going to gram stain all 27 colonies on Plate A and all 14 colonies on Plate B. This will be interesting o.o Anyway, Plate B was taken after it rained here about two months ago. It'll be interesting to see if there are any differences in the bacteria. As you guys can tell, there is a difference in the amount of bacteria colonies, so that's exciting! I wish it would rain again though, so I can determine if the decrease is actually caused by the rain.

Hello all! This past week I compiled all the data gathered from the gram staining and organized them. Then I looked over the bacteria manual and matched the results to possible groups that the bacteria could be in. Many of them had multiple possible groups, so from then I decided that the next test would be the endospore test. It was my first time performing this test, so it took me a while to get the hang of things. Keep posted for more!
